Why Should You Have a Gas Fireplace Insert?

So you already have a wood-burning fireplace in your home. It’s worked well for a long time, but there are some safety and health concerns—and it’s a bit of a hassle to purchase or prepare firewood ahead of time. A gas fireplace insert is an excellent alternative. It gets installed in the existing firebox of your wood-burning fireplace. And many people really prefer it.

Gas Fireplace Inserts Are Efficient

Those who’ve used gas heating methods like these in the past may be concerned about efficiency. But today’s gas fireplace models are more efficient than ever before. Natural gas is readily available in your home, so you won’t have to worry about having firewood or fuel ready for the heating season.

And it’s a lot more effective at cooling a larger space. While a wood fireplace may have a classic welcoming look and feel, gas fireplaces (which can be designed to look just like wood fireplaces) are able to heat large areas so that you feel the warmth as soon as you walk into a room. While it might be a bit costly to install at first, your gas fireplace will really pay off in the end!

Safety

Lighting a wood fireplace can be difficult. There’s a lot that can go wrong, and if not properly maintained, smoke can move back into the space in your home. The doors remain shut in gas fireplaces, so these are things you don’t really need to worry about. As long as a professional installs it and modifies your exhaust system as necessary, everything should work well.

That said, please keep in mind that you must have your gas fireplace cleaned and inspected just as you would with a wood fireplace. There are still many safety issues unique to gas fireplaces, and annual inspections give you peace of mind.
